Unit 6.2A Assignment

On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.

Student Name:

Ryan Dennes

Title of Site:

Picsviewr

URL:

http://www.picsviewr.com/

Description of Site:

Picsviewr allows you to use photos from Flickr to creating presentations. The service makes templates and automated slides available to users. The site is free for users, but does offer paid features, as well. Picsviewr does have advertisements, and allows for your to market your own advertisements on the site by contacting the owner. Collaboration is essentially built into the service, as it only allows for the display of public photos. Picsviewr does not appear to have a dedicated space for students and teachers; however, it does appear to be appropriate for schools and classes looking to make picture slide shows, advertisements for course selections, or course related presentations. I would target this Web 2.0 tool to Middle School or High School students. Elementary School students could potentially use the service with help from an instructor.

Educational Uses of Site

The site could be used to produce picture slide presentations of student project progress. It could be used for back to school nights, course selection presentations, step by step tutorials, or digital yearbooks.

Review of Site

I personally believe that the site provides a useful tool and resource to individuals looking to create quick, yet professional picture slideshows. The site is simple, but user friendly, and incorporates many of the same tools as you find on Flickr. The seamless integration between the services, makes it easy to access content and create your work.
